So the Ford NS'er at work are in a tizzy about this thread. I am told to throw the Mach 1 in the mix since it is more in the TA price range and the performance numbers are really close.

Does the mach1 have the same engine as the cobra?

In its most simple form for someone who has absolutely no knowledge about f-bodies. Firebird = v6. Formula = Firebird with a V8. Trans Am = Firebird with a V8 and a body kit. usually loaded up too. WS6 = appearance and handling package for either V8 cars.... they were converted by ASC. Firehawk = V8 car that had a different ram air hood, thin spoke 17" wheels, and various other options installed by SLP.

The range of packages and options were dizzying..
Mach 1 is actually a good comparison. 4v motors made 305 in 03..
I have owned serveral versions of both and I would say stock for stock, I would give the edge to the terminator. Slightly faster, better handling, and more comfortable without the mile long dash/window combo and stupid cat floor hump. The articulating seats in my firehawk were pretty sweet and the shifter layout is much better in the f-bod, and t tops flat out rock, so close call. The forged DOHC was stupid easy to make power with and was much easier to work on unlike the ls1 buried half under the cowl. Looks wise it's to close to call for me, both beautiful cars.

They both had a 4.6v8, if that's what you were asking. The mach 1 didn't have the supercharger. It had an aluminum block and bunch of 5.4l parts instead, of I remember right...

Similar to the 99-01 cobra motors. All aluminium, forged crank(5 speed only), very good breathing heads with cams out of a navigator if memory serves, 10.1 :1 compression. My 04 Mach ran a best of 13.4 @ 104 bone stock. easy 12's with a couple bolt on's and dr's. gears made all the difference with these cars as the NA dohc had a notorious lack of torque. The came with 3.55's but shined with 4.10 or 4.30's

I thought the mach 1 had a supercharger. I never understood why they didn't just upgrade the engine to the crappy 5.4 and get it over with.

I have a stock 03 terminator and I like it
.... Stock ..... Why? Lol
Sure the 4 valve Mach one motor is way better than the 2 valve.... But it still has a liter of displacement missing .....
Might be some f bodies in trailer parks but mustangs rule the up on blocks part ... Someone forgot the king of the Jeff foxworthy 12 days of Christmas parody.
The terms was the price of a good blower more than a trans am and fatter..... It really targeted the corvette in the market place and badly lost that comparison over and over again.

I like the look of them both. The stance of the Mustang is amazing. The ram air hood of the TA is breathtaking. Pretty impressive though when the old push rod, no help engine runs so close.
The technology in the Ford engine should have put it leaps and bounds ahead but it didn't...the blower did.

I wouldn't even say the blower put it "leaps and bounds" ahead. More like a fender, lol.

yeah... a fender is about it. the torque is is what gets it that fender ahead. . That's what got brians mustang ahead.. once past the initial jump, he couldn't pull and i just wasn't reeling him in fast enough.... wish i could run him again since i added the cam.

Yup. That thing would jump an instant car or so on me and he would be maybe a nose by 120 when he would always shut down. I told him to sray in it to 130, but he never would... probably for that reason.

130 is just tooo fast... 120 is ok.. but he had to slam the brakes at 120. that used to scare the hell out of me.

I'd be happy with a 130 in the 1/4 now.

You can stay faster than me in the quarter mile. I have no intent to keep up. I'll stick to shifting own my gears and going around turns.
