The ford 460 is back when everyone made trucks. ford stopped that right after they quit making the 460.

I didn't say anything about the 460 or 390. That was way back when Ford knew how to make a proper engine. Those engines were strong as anything Dodge or Chevy put out even without boost.

there basicly a 5.4 with 2 more cylinders so head gasket replacement and coil and spark plug issues are common they run fair but nothing to brag about

I would get what I could afford...of course the newer the vehicle the more power and better fuel economy...no matter who's truck you are looking at.

All this talk in this thread about the Ford v10's blowing plugs - yet didn't see one person say they actually owned one?

Point is....if your budget is 12k on a truck then I think the v10 F250 is the best bang for the buck when considering power, truck reliability, and mileage.

If your budget is 30k, there are much better options out there in any manufacturers line than an older v10 F250.

I had a 5.4 and it's the same valvetrain minus 2 cylinders. Older ones blew plugs, newer 3 valves were a real nightmare.

Well said.. I think I have narrowed it down to the 08-10 F series with a 6.4 power stroke. I did some reading up on that motor and it has a lot of potential and with a DPF delete the issues are minor. Talking to the dealer that had the gas truck this morning they did not like the 26k I told them the truck NADA for so the v10 is out of the picture anyway.

Cant go wrong with a gm with a 6.0, I get 12.5 locally and get 13.5 towing on the highway. I've never ran it without some sort of load on it on the highway to tell you what the unloaded highway mileage would be.

    - - - Updated - - -

BTW absolutely steer clear of a ford 6.0

I hammered on my truck while loaded with a heavy ass fbody on the back and still got 10mpg. Usually got between 10 and 15 unloaded and I wasn't exactly easy on it then either...

You also have to look at reliability and maintenance costs and factor those in. You KNOW you are going to have to buy a motor down the road, so why the hell would you buy that model? That makes no sense.

Ive never owned one. I dont need to own one to tell you it is a problem much like I dont need to shoot my self in the foot to tell you it hurts. We have one sitting in our lot right now waiting for a motor to be put in. We finished one up two weeks ago. We have done 5 in the past 4 months.
