Default Megasquirt...does anybody here have experience?

I've wanted to keep my car carbureted but may be willing to play with the fun stuff just a little. I figure it can't hurt, I can change it back if I don't like it.

I have a complete megasquirt kit in the cabinet. Does anybody have experience with these systems? I thought if I can figure it out, it could work with any combination I can throw at the car.

I don't think they had Megasquirt, I'm pretty sure Mike told me it was similar but not megasquirt.

I have done a couple of megasquirts. They work fine and have a LOAD of possible features. I actually reprogrammed on to run both my engine and dyno for my thesis in school.

That said, I don't use it on any of my cars, because it makes troubleshooting too hard since the hardware or software could be messed up. If the documentation was a little better I might use it more. It helps a lot if your application is either simple or something that a lot of people are using that way there is some support.

The cool part about megasquirt is I can run my stock ignition timing. It will run pretty well any combination and I can switch back to a carburetor pretty quickly.

If you go to a junkyard, you can get the main harness connector from a '90s ford. I know T-birds have them, and various other cars too. They have enough pins and various wire sizes to run all your wires through the one connector, that way you can just pull one plug if you need to switch stuff. I have been meaning to go get one for my race car that way it is easier to pull the engine.

What my car runs is Megatune. It is a knock off version of Megasquirt with fewer features. My car is a tuning nightmare, but I don't place all of the blame on the software.

I will be "upgrading" my car to MegaSquirt Version 3 this season. I have spent some time checking out Tunerstudio and so far I really like it. The major downside I see to MegaSquirt is that most tuners think it's outdated, so finding someone who is willing to tune my car has been a challenge.
