    Default Deals Gap/The Dragon

Planning a few riding trips this year, the biggest being a trip to slay the dragon.

Just wondering if anyone has went down and could offer any advice on where to stay, best camp sites, restaurants, etc.

Date is still in the air. I'm working on details now, and will be trying to narrow a date down with my riding partners.

Planning to trailer down, camp out, etc. Hope to do some riding/camping in Canaan this year also.

You can turn the radio off in your car, and ignore the cell phone vibrating in your pocket but it's not the same lol.

I can have more fun riding 5mph under the speed limit on my bike then I can doing 30mph over it in a car. It's dangerous, but the risks are manageable.

I live in the country, a PERFECT spot for motorcycle riding. got a bike ( cruiser that wasn't fast) worked on it, rode for fun. and every time i went out something hairy would happen. a camaro cut me off put it sideways in front of me covering both lanes. some idiots trying to run over me. etc. then i wrecked a dirtbike at going pretty slow and it screwed me up pretty bad. Lot of frines older than me had injuries that really messed them up. after a few other accidents and stuff i made myself a rule. "nothing i get ON. only things i can get IN" most of my cars are T-Top or targa..it's not the same, but a compromise I think was best for me personally.

sorry so long & off topic.

There is a resort at the top of mountain I believe. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ that website has a lot of information on it.

^^this, it's better for my health that I stay off a bike.

Gixxer you could post up a thread here also. In fact i'd like to make it.. however that's right around our rally it's the 18th = 21st so i'll prob. be a bit worn out on those dates.

I'm going to Kentucky for a week, then turning around and doing the rally a couple weeks later. I'll be damn well beat by the end of July.

I rode the Dragon last summer. It was fun but just too many people. I was on my 109 and had a Jeep in my lane in one of the curves. I wouldn't recommend the Dragon just because of the traffic. It is a very dangerous road.

The Dragon isn't bad if you stay away from Holidays and weekends. I usually hit it with my SQ friends on 4th of July Weekend and it is PACKED. Area 51 and the Hell Bender are also good roads to hit and aren't near as busy.

When Mike and I ran the dragon in the mustang it wasn't to bad. It's just one of those roads that you need to ride/drive at least once!

I agree on riding it once for everybody just to see the amount of curves. I rode it on a normal weekday and it was cramped then. I could just imagine how bad it would be on a holiday.
I thought it would be no big deal given the roads in Wv but I was wrong.

We just had to deal with a BUNCH of Mazda Miatas. Those little things were EVERYWHERE!!!

First time I ran the dragon I rented a cabin in Pigeon Forge for a few friends and we spent the weekend enjoying that area.

A few other times I also staid in Pigeon Forge, it's a nice area and only about 30min or so from the dragon.

Two years ago when Mike and I went, we staid in Robbinsville at the Phillips Motel. It wasn't anything special, but it was cheap and clean. Also it was JUST down the road from the Dragon, so the location was perfect.

I wouldn't stay in Pigeon Forge - traffic sucks on a bike.
We stayed here last time and I LOVED it! http://www.cherohalacottage.com/
The Cherohala Skyway was an AMAZING ride!! Nice swooping turns that I love And great views that are insanely distracting lol

I get pretty bad tunnel vision when the visor drops. It'd have to be amazing to get my eyes off the road.

Can't wait to get down there and see it all first hand.
