the age old debate "tune it yourself and go through a heck of a learning process" or just pay to have it done.

I side with kenny on the "i want to know how to do it" i hate mysteries.

Well said Steve, I do all my own bike repairs. I have split cases on countless engines. I have never paid a shop to do anything to my bikes other than an inspection sticker and tire mount/spin balance for tubeless setups. Heck, I'll probably buy my own tire machine and balancer someday. I'm planning to build an addition on my home and then a seperate garage for my bikes/business. I'm getting tired of my agrage being full of ebay shelves.

I've strangely enjoyed learning the tuning process and can't wait to get the new software. This software is all new. It opens the Aprilia (Walbro) ECM up 100% to the tuner. In addition, I can tune any Aprilia XV with it without purchasing keys, yada, yada. So if anybody else buys an SXV, RXV, or any 4.5, 5.5 bike, I can tune it. Pretty cool since I'll probably own an RXV someday.

I would rather pay someone that knows what they are doing to tune my bike. Less hassle and less headaches for me. I see it as too much risk learning to tune on my bike at my own expense. Also... I have a million other projects going on, so its less stress to let that fall on someone else's shoulders.

Thanks, I love the look of the bike. The title issues are the 06/07 ones. all 08+ have good titles, provided they are not stolen bikes.

Figured I'd add some pics of my throttle body calibration. I was bored this evening!

    Here are the twins

The big little picture, I use old school mercury gauges for my tuning.

I got the new software today(finally) and it is awesome! I can't say enough about Western Performance, this software is amazing. It is leaps and bounds ahead of tuneboy. I can upload tunes quick and easy. The new software has already had about 3 new versions and now I'm waiting on another which is supposed to be released in 2 days. Tuning is fun when you have proper software!
Best news, I can now do full derestrictions on any and as many Aprilia XVs as I want. I own the license for KWest and can do Aprilia SXV, RXV, 4.5, and 5.5 bikes.

I'm actually working with the software manufacturer right now on another version. There has been 4 revisions in like 3 weeks and now I have him making another. I always find weird problems.

I was out yesterday running some dirt and took a few pics. Sadly, I think the 60 mile dual sport run yesterday done this bike in. Something gave out in the transmission. I'm still trying to figure out what happened, there is nothing wrong so far in the clutch side. Anyway, here are some pics...

I may have to borrow the "fuck it flag" from Levi if this problem is too deep. Remember, this bike has less than 800 total miles on it! When I tore it down, I was amazed how cheap it is built. The gears are skimpy and fit loose. These bikes may be the Ferrari of motorcycles but their built more to Chinese spec. Like it or not, that's how it is. I've junked hundreds of Jap bike and none are built "loose".

Cool Pics... Bummer about the trans. .... italians don't seem to put much work into toys. until recently ferraris fell appart with less than 20K miles. lambos were worse till Audi bout them.

Isn't Audi just a high end spin off of VW?

Never seen anything cheaply built with mine, but the engines are built by Rotex (sp?) Never heard of a tranny failure with one either, but I have not been very active on the forums for a while. I didn't think one could be ran through the mill much harder than I did, guess we need to go riding sometime.

Funny part, I wasn't pushing it too hard. I've been having trouble with my foot lately and took off on a leisurely on/off road ride to get my mind off it. It was probably the easiest ride I have ever took the bike on.
In the bottom pic, there are two gears that run the oil pump. They fit loose and feel loose, I'm not impressed at all with the quality. Now I have to pull the oil pump and look for issues there.
